McDonough County has a superb mass
transit system called McDonough County Public Transportation or
MCPT. The system includes both the Go West bus system and
demand-response services that provide scheduled pick-up and drop-off
for senior citizens and others. Demand-response is provided
by the American Red Cross, Bridgeway and Barry’s Van and
Shuttle service.
The Go West Bus System runs through the streets of Macomb daily and
on weekends. Some bus routes are concentrated around the Western
Illinois University Campus, while other routes wind through the city
to enable residents easy access to the most-traveled places. City buses
operate from 7:00AM to 5:30PM Monday through Friday and 1:00PM to 4:00PM
on Saturdays. Special buses between the Macomb square and Western
Illinois University campus operate later at night during the WIU school
year.
Demand response services are based on reservations made 24-hours
before a pick-up is needed. The central call number is operational
and service is provided Monday through Friday from 6AM to 6PM. The
837-RIDE (7-4-3-3) number replaces having to call separate transportation
providers for service.
