Campaign Encourages Bus Use by Macomb Residents
Macomb residents are being urged to ride the Go
West bus system around town this summer. McDonough County
Public Transportation (MCPT) has launched a new advertising campaign
suggesting that citizens should “Get Where You’re Going” using
the bus.
“Our research has shown that some residents
think the Go West bus system is only for Western Illinois University
students,” said Gary Ziegler, MCPT Director. “The
buses are for all residents and serve the entire community.”
Ziegler noted that there are many reasons to
ride the bus, including the high cost of gasoline. He said
that buses pick up near all residential areas within the city limits
and have stops at grocery stores, the public library, the courthouse
square, pharmacies, discount stores and parks. The buses are
also air-conditioned.
“Summer is a great season to ride the Go
West buses,” said Jude Kiah, Go West System Director. “We
have recently changed routes to better accommodate residents and
reach the places they will most likely visit.”
City buses will operate from 7:00AM to 5:30PM Monday
through Friday and 1:00PM to 4:00PM on Saturdays, starting August
1st. Residents are encouraged to check schedules and route
information at the MPCT website - www.837ride.com.
The advertising campaign consists of newspaper,
radio and billboards. In addition to riding the bus, the campaign
encourages the use of a central dispatch phone number for demand-response
service through the American Red Cross, Bridgeway, and Barry’s
Van/Shuttle service – 837-RIDE (7433). The campaign was
designed locally by The Mediacall Group.
